Four Years' Turbulence
Period of time spanning 576 to 580 CF. Duke Armand of Florent died in a hunting accident (which many claim was not an accident at all), leaving the succession of the Duchy of Florent in question. There were three possible candidates: Ruel, Armand’s bastard son who had been adopted in his 16th year, Neela, Armand’s half-sister on his father’s side, and Sammrick, Armand’s nephew. The situation in the Duchy was very tense during this time, with house retainers on all sides engaging in minor skirmishes that threatened to erupt into civil war. Eventually, Ruel reached an agreement with Neela, who agreed to marry him in return for several concessions regarding house finances and affairs. Faced with two unified opponents, Sammrick let his claim drop and accepted a position in Florent’s financial ministry. The threat of civil war never came to pass, but many resentments still linger amongst the retainers of house Florent.
